The
sun letters الحروف الشمسية and The moon letters الحروف القمرية
The
Arabic letters are divided into two groups:
- The sun letters الحروف
الشمسية al-horoof ash-shamseyyah.
- The moon letters الحروف
القمرية al-horoof al-qamareyyah.
If we
are reading Arabic we do not pronounce the letter “ال”
it will silent (Alif Lam) after “ال”
But
we do pronounce the letter"ل" when the prefix
“ال” is added to a moon letter. Example: The
book الكتاب al-ketab.
*Note that the difference is only for the pronunciation, and
you write the “ال” in both cases.
There are 28 consonants in the Arabic
alphabet. There are 14 Sun Letters and 14 Sun Letters

The 14 Sun-letters are: (ﻥ
,ﻝ ,ﻅ ,ﻁ ,ﺽ ,ﺹ ,ﺵ ,ﺱ ,ﺯ ,ﺭ ,ﺫ ,ﺩ ,ﺙ ,ﺕ).
Note there is a Most important sign of
Sun letter we find a tashdeed ّon
the letter after the “ال”

حَجَّكَ وَخَفْ عَقِيْمَه (which roughly translates to:
‘Perform Haj and be vary of quarrel’).
